Official, judged competition. Judge: Joshua Taylor, http://www.archiphotoworkshops.com/
Mr. Taylor has judged for us before, a few years ago, and did a superb job.
Theme is “Nature”:
Images that illustrate the natural features of land, sea, or sky, or that reveal certain natural phenomena such as cloud formations, precipitation, frost, fire, or which depict wildlife. The hand of man may be present as long as it enhances the theme of nature rather than detract. Examples include a small boat in a large lake, a fence in a distance, a path, etc.
*Please note that “detracting” hand of man in an image will be left to the judge’s discretion.
, will talk with us about photographing areas found in his book. He is a very engaging speaker with excellent tips on beautiful places to photograph in our “backyard” of the mid-atlantic.

NVACC Judging profile: http://www.nvacc.org/Neenan.html
Bio:
Charles Neenan is a digital imaging artist and photographer living in northern Virginia. Like any artist that uses oil, pencil, acrylic, and other more “traditional” art media to tell stories, his easel is a computer screen and his brushes and canvas are cameras and lenses. His finished photographic-digital compositions are exhibited on fine art paper, canvas, and specialty photo papers.
Well traveled throughout the U.S. and countries on four continents, his art and photography have been influenced by a mixture of cultures, spreading from Malaysia to Miami, and from Manhattan to Madrid. An active member of the League of Reston Artists, Reston Photographic Society and Vienna Photographic Society (VPS), Charles Neenan is also a past Board member of VPS. In May 2007 he formed the Creative Photographers’ Society for both artists and photographers residing in northern Virginia and the Washington, D.C. Metro area.
In June 2007 his work Transcendence was juried into the Fairfax Arts Council Exhibition at the GRACE Gallery, Reston Town Center, Virginia. Neenan was one of only 23 regional and international artists chosen, out of a field of hundreds. He has won Regional and local awards for his digital imagery, including an Equal Merit Award for the 2004 USGS National Gallery photography exhibition in Reston, Virginia for Evolution 002, judged by Chuck Veatch. In the spring of 2005 he was featured on the Photographers of Northern Virginia television program. In January 2006 he successfully participated in the DC Art Expo, in Washington, D.C., and for the month of October 2006 had a one-man show at the Reston Community Center at Hunter Woods, where 30+ works of traditional photography and digital imagery were displayed. His landscape of Meadowlark Gardens is the cover shot for the 2007 Herndon Town Planner calendar. Many of his works are hanging in private residences and commercial offices in the Region.
Neenan conducts individually tailored digital photography and PhotoShop classes in northern Virginia for the serious amateur photographer and hobbyist alike. Since January 2007, he has presented talks on his thoughts on digital imaging to the Fairfax Art League, Reston Photographic Society, Northern Virginia Photographic Society (NVPS), and the McLean Photography Club.
Neenan has been accepted to exhibit his latest work work, Time Warp 3792 CE, at the Arts Club of Washington for the month of September 2007 in conjunction with other artists from around the US. In early 2006, Neenan was published in Thinking About Art: The One Word Project, compiled by J. T. Kirkland. In addition to his commentary on Tradition, the book featured his image Nuclear San Francisco.
Two of his most avant garde works, Jazz World 2007 and New Worlds, were recently juried into the Art Reston Exhibition at the JoAnne Rose Gallery at Lake Anne and were on display through the end of June 2007. Neenan currently has two nature photo images on display at the United States Geological Survey National Gallery in Reston, Virginia.
